Why did you join VSA and why eboard?:
"Growing up, I was never part of a group or school club that I enjoyed and felt dedicated to. It was always go to school, go home, sleep, go back to school and repeat. I thought it would be no different in college. Once I went to my first VSA GIM, I knew things were different. Everyone was so friendly, accepting and welcoming. I was surprised at how easy it was to talk to everyone. They made me excited for the next event... and the next… and eventually I became an active member. I decided to shadow for fundraising and eventually applied to be the new Fundraising Chair and now Vice President of VSA. I hoped to gain not just friends but more of a sense of community and family and I got exactly that and more. As an E-Board member, I want to give back and be able to bring people together through our various VSA events while learning and appreciating the Vietnamese culture."

Why did you join VSA and why eboard?:
“I used to move around a lot so I didn’t have a lot of friends. I’ve always had problems talking to people, a major shy boy. Coming into Baruch, I didn’t know anyone. The few friends I’ve had all went to different places. A certain girl dragged me to VSA’s first GIM and the rest was history. VSA is like the Foster Home for Imaginary Friends, only the friends are real and they’re amazing, supportive and quirkily adorable people. From the events here at Baruch VSA to supporting other VSAs in the region, the clubs provided me these opportunities to have unforgettable experiences and expand my network. I want new members to experienced VSA the same way that I did. I want to give back to the club that’s given me a lot of life.”

Why did you join VSA and why eboard?:
“Growing up, I have always been an introvert. At Baruch, I never thought of being a part of a club or becoming a E-board member, but I was willing to give it a try and I did that by joining VSA. I have been a member for almost two years now and looking back, I can say that the best thing about VSA is its members. Everyone is so friendly, welcoming, and supportive of one another. Ultimately, we are one big happy family. Also looking back at the old E-board members, I can say that I admire each of every one of them for all of the hard work that they’ve put into making VSA what it is today. They have inspired me to get involved and as a current E-board member I hope to give back and help out just like they did.”

Why did you join VSA and why eboard?:
“ I promised myself I would try my best to get out of my comfort zone when I got to college, and I couldn’t have found a better club for that. I went to VSA’s second GIM and I was surrounded by such energetic, welcoming people- it really resonated with me and I just had to come back. I felt so welcomed by the people there and as I went to more and more events I found myself being drawn out of my shell, I learned more about myself as a person than I have before. I decided to join eboard because I really wanted to give back to the club that made my first year at Baruch so memorable for me :)

Why did you join VSA and why eboard?:
Asian American Identity and Community was huge for me throughout my high school career. However there was a distinct problem that I noticed; when people typically say “Asian American” they naturally only think of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean people - other ethnic groups are left out. VSA gave me the opportunity to explore a different ethnic group outside the typical triad and I loved every second of it. The events that I attended was a big part of why I was so engrossed with VSA. Their cultural events drew you in and their social events kept making you come back for more. I joined E-Board because I wanted to bolster the ideas of Identity and Community within VSA. I want to give other people the same opportunity, if not greater, of exploration and involvement that I was given when I first stepped foot into VSA.

Why did you join VSA and why eboard?:
I joined VSA to try to find a more social active life on campus. Even with DSP, I felt like something was missing. I missed the first GIM, but came along with one of my pledge brothers, Andy Au, to game day and I instantly loved the environment that I was put in. After that, I just attended every event and tried to help out with anything. After going out to eat a few times with everybody and getting close with everyone, I just decided to pursue and apply for VPM without anybody really knowing. I wanted to join eBoard and give back to everybody and VSA itself in a way that would attract new members. VPM seemed very interesting to me and I viewed it as a learning experience for myself as well. Helping VSA grow will be my main goal this year as well as making sure everybody stays close and trying to create bigger and closer bonds.

I never imagined I would be part of club during my time at college. However, after attending the first VSA GIM I wanted to continue going to other events because I felt so welcome, even if I didn't know the people there. Going into college I didn't have any friends that were going to attend Baruch. Because of VSA, I made many friends and continue to meet friendly individuals. As I went to more events I got to know more people from the club better and got close to many. VSA is a big family and I'm glad I continued going because they made my first year at Baruch memorable. I joined E-board because I wanted to give back to the club that welcomed me with open arms and at the same time work to spread the many reasons why I love VSA.

Why did you join VSA and why eboard?:
I originally wanted to just go to school, work, and go home without any intention of taking part in student life, but I joined VSA because my friend bugged me to. What I hadn’t realized is that I’d want to stay because of the amazing people and the great events. People I knew from VSA became friends and those friends became my home away from home. I became closer and closer with members of E-board and realized just how hard-working they really are. I decided I’d want to become E-board to give back to the organization that gave so much to me; from everlasting memories to unbreakable bonds. I take it upon myself to inspire and lead the next generation so that the cycle of a home away from home can continue.

Why did you join VSA and why eboard?:
In high school I was only involved with sports, and it was difficult to continue that coming into Baruch. I didn’t know what club I could possibly join because I didn’t feel like I belonged to any certain group -- I really considered to float around on my own. As a Chinese-American, the logical choice would be becoming a member of a Chinese student club, but that idea did not appeal to me at all. I attended a GIM for VSA with my friends and I felt very welcomed by the energy and enthusiasm of the members, so I stayed. Later I shadowed the fundraising chair (our VP!!) and I became interested in planning fundraising events and I want to repay the efforts my shadow leader put into helping me. I also have an interest in experiencing new cultures, so as an e-board member, I hope to be able to spread some aspects of the Vietnamese culture and work with and for the members of VSA.

Why did you join VSA and why eboard?:
At the start of the spring semester of Freshman year, I decided that I need to get more involved with clubs because staying at home and playing games are starting to get old as well as striving to get more out of the college experience.I joined VSA as well as some other clubs and slowly but steadily get out of my shell. One of the best decisions is joining the Gia Dinh Program. I got to meet cool people and gain more experiences with new friends. Eventually, Spring Semester of Sophomore Year flew by and by that time I found my passion for photography and decided to enroll into to the Shadow Program.Working with the board had been an enlightening experience and made me respect the hard work and dedication they put in to see an event go smoothly. It made me want to join and contribute to their vision through my photography.

Why did you join VSA and why eboard?:
I originally did not know about VSA, but when my friends dragged me to a GIM, I felt impressed by how comfortable people about themselves. I wanted to join the club, because I wanted to learn to become comfortable with myself. I decided to join eboard, because there was a need for people, and I wanted to do something more for VSA. I had fun being underneathe everyones care, and now I want to make an impact in someone’s life. I also wanted to become Philanthropy chair, because volunteering and philanthropic acts are one of the best ways to grow as a person. One of my original goals in VSA, was to grow and create wonderful experiences. What better way to do that, than to give back to the community, and grow as a person and leader.

Why did you join VSA and why eboard?:
Before coming to Baruch, I didn’t feel like it was someplace I was meant to be at and I would be one of those people who would just go to class and then go home. But on my convocation day, I met VSA and from there began my incredible journey with all the great friends, almost like family, that I have made. I have found a place that feels like a family, a home away from home. I have found a place that has taught me to grow as person and as a leader because I am not the same person I was before coming to Baruch. I joined e-board my freshman year because this was a club that I devoted so much time to and I wanted to be a part of something bigger and help others find a family within VSA like I did. I am on e-board today as President, taking on an even bigger role because I love and care about VSA and how much it has done for me and I hope that I can help others recognize what VSA stands for and help them find their home away from home.
